Credit unions won a victory Thursday night when a Senate committee approved an amendment to remove a provision that would limit credit card interchange rates on government transactions.

A credit union executive will tell a House Small Business Committee's Subcommittee on Oversight and Investigations that the new federal interchange rules will mean his CU will have to start charging members for using debit cards.

Partisan maneuvering derailed, at least temporarily, Senate action on s small business lending bill.

Federally insured credit unions that are insolvent, in conservatorship or have ratings of CAMEL 4 and 5 could not offer golden parachutes to their executives under a proposed NCUA rule.
