Greater Nashua Habitat for Humanity finally has the funds to purchase two vehicles courtesy of St. Mary's Bank.
The $855 million credit union based in Manchester, NH recently provided a $2,500 Community Outreach Grant to the local organization's truck challenge match funding effort to purchase two trucks. The new trucks will go a long way to building and renovating affordable housing for local families in need.
“In order to continue providing much needed services, we sought funding to help purchase two new-to-us trucks: one for our construction and building projects and another for our ReStore, a discounted building/home supply store that generates income that funds the building of more Habitat homes,” Jennifer Skibba, GNHFH director of resource development said. “The trucks we currently have are aging and not cost-effective to continue repairing.”
A local affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, GNHFH works in partnership with corporations, like-minded community groups, faith-based organizations, and individual volunteers to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating simple, decent, energy efficient, affordable homes.
Habitat homes are built with volunteer labor and donated materials for low-income families unable to obtain conventional mortgages. Qualified families pay a monthly, no-interest mortgage to Habitat, which in turn go back into building more homes for families in need.
“The American dream has long been owning your own home, and thanks to Habitat for Humanity, that dream has become a reality for many local families,” St. Mary's Bank director of community outreach Tom Champagne said. “We're pleased to be able to help support this amazing organization, which not only provides appreciative families with the home of their dreams, but also helps strengthen the wider community as a result.”
