The $2 billion NEFCU in Westbury, N.Y., has donated $15,000 to the World Council of Credit Unions to help the global credit union outreach to victims of Typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines.

"Typhoon Haiyan is one of the worst natural disasters in recent history," said Dr. Esmeralda Lyn, the Long Island credit union's board second vice chair.  "In keeping with our credit union philosophy of helping people, we are pleased to contribute to relief efforts that will help Philippine citizens rebuild their lives."

WOCCU began its relief effort shortly after the storm roared over the Philippines. The early November storm killed at least 5,000 people there, injured another 20,000 and displaced nearly a million people, according to recent estimates.
