Regarding the page 1 article in the March 21 issue, "Near Death Reports Disputed."

In defense of Bill Cheney and CUNA, I do not think that the CEOs quoted in your article have been asked a complete question. ["Have traditional trade associations entered their twilight years?"]

I think you also need to add to the quoted question and ask, What kind of negative legislation would have been passed by Congress if CUNA did not stand in the breech on behalf of all credit unions?

The article is written in such a way that the assumptions made by the quoted CEOs (Can you tell me one major thing that CUNA has done for credit unions in the last 12 years?) leads you down the path to where you would answer that question with a simple answer of "nothing."

That kind of logic is incomplete in its conclusion because it does not tell the whole story regarding the work that CUNA (and NAFCU for that matter) does to stop legislation that would end up being harmful to credit unions.
