For its 75 years of service, New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie recently thanked First Financial Credit Union.
The $178 million credit union in Wall, N.J. is celebrating its 75th anniversary this year. "I applaud the First Financial Credit Union for the decades of financial support and options it has provided to Wall Township and the surrounding communities," Christie wrote in a letter to the credit union.
Founded in 1936 by a group of Asbury Park school teachers, the credit union was initially named Monmouth County, NJ Teachers Federal Credit Union. It later expanded to include employees of both Monmouth and Ocean County Boards of Education, at which time the name was changed to Mon-Oc Teachers Federal Credit Union.

Over the years, the credit union expanded its field of membership to include municipal employees, hospitals, nursing facilities and several small businesses. After several name changes, the cooperative became First Financial Credit Union in 2006. Today, it serves more than 22,000 members.
