The fast-growing pack of Android users can now use a MasterCard app for finding ATMs.

MasterCard Worldwide has launched a MasterCard ATM Hunter app for that platform, two years after providing the locator app for iPhones and about a year after it debuted for BlackBerry users.

The applets allow users to quickly find the nearest ATM regardless of location around the world, said MasterCard Worldwide in Purchase, N.Y.

“With the success of this application on both the iPhone and Blackberry, it is a natural progression to bring it to the active Android user base as well. Now, Android smartphone users can save time by using the MasterCard ATM Hunter in real-time to find an ATM nearby,” said Cheryl Guerin, senior vice president of Global Digital Marketing at MasterCard Worldwide.

The MasterCard ATM Hunter uses location-based tools in the Android platform to search for the nearest ATM. Searches can be based on their unique banking needs, such as a specific financial institution for deposits or surcharge-free ATMs, wheelchair and 24-hour access and directions.

Guerin said the Android app also will allow users to report nonworking ATMs or machines no longer in the location noted. MasterCard said its location services platforms now are used by millions of customers a year to find ATM and merchant locations.
