JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – Missouri Circuit Court Judge Richard Callahan heard closing arguments on Feb. 17 in the Cole County Circuit Court in the field-of-membership case concerning TelComm CU, Springfield, Mo. The case stems from a 2001 challenge brought by the Missouri Bankers Association of the Missouri Credit Union Commission's decision to grant a FOM expansion to the credit union which at the time was called Springfield Telephone Employees CU. The Cole County Circuit Court originally ruled that the banks did not have the standing to challenge the Commission's decision. When the bankers appealed the lower court's decision to the Missouri Supreme Court, the higher court sent the case back to the circuit court in March 2004. Judge Callahan is expected to announce his decision within a month.
