WASHINGTON -- One of the credit union industry's champions on Capitol Hill has weighed with apprehension on the parts of the U.S. Treasury Department's related to credit unions and with guarded approval of the other parts.

NEWPORT BEACH, Calif. -- NACUSO is concerned that the Treasury Department's regulatory agency overhaul proposal would not only do away with the credit union model but eliminate the movement's "greatest hedge against unchecked greed."

ARLINGTON, VA -- Unsurprisingly, NASCUS this morning added its voice to the chorus of credit union associations reacting negatively to the recent financial regulatory proposal from the Bush Administration.

WASHINGTON -- Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson announced this morning the department's blueprint for financial regulatory reform, which ostensibly would eliminate the NCUA, bringing credit unions under banking regulatory oversight. The Office of Thrift Supervision may also be eliminated, should the blueprint be adopted.
