John Murphy, the 24-year president/CEO of the Maine Credit Union League, said June 3 he plans to retire on June 1, 2017.
The league retained O'Rourke & Associates to conduct a search for Murphy's successor.
Murphy has held numerous positions during his 43-year career with the Maine league and its for-profit services subsidiary, Synergent. In July 1992, he was appointed president/CEO of the Maine league and the subsidiary. Murphy participated in the development of many products, services and programs for credit unions, the league said.

Throughout his career, he served on numerous industry boards and committees including the board of directors for CUNA, where he chaired the corporate governance committee.
Murphy also served on several committees of the American Association of Credit Union Leagues and chaired the organization's political involvement and grassroots committee. For several years, he also chaired the Maine Council on Economic Education, which promotes the importance of financial literacy.
Murphy currently serves as vice chair of CUSO Home Lending in Hampden. He also serves on the board of CO-OP Shared Branching in Duluth, Ga., and America's Credit Union Museum in Manchester, N.H.
"It's a true privilege to work both for and with so many great people over the years in an industry that is so important in the lives of consumers," he said.
