The Tuscaloosa, Ala.-based, $582 million AlabamaOne Credit Union, which was placed under conservatorship by the Alabama Credit Union Administration onAug. 27, 2015, installed ATMs and cash recyclers as part of aseries of technological enhancements.

TheACUA allowed Alabama One to make to make a significantcommitment to improving its technology infrastructure, Alabama Onesaid, adding that its goal is to improve the credit union's branchand mobile banking channels this year.

The new and improved ATMs (pictured), which now take cash andcheck deposits, replaced Alabama One's aged, existing ATMs at eachof its 14 locations and have already generated positive feedbackfrom members, according to the credit union. Additional technologyimprovements included driver's license scanners, the expanded useof cash recyclers, and debit and credit card instant issuancemachines.

In the near future, Alabama One, which serves some 60,000members in 21 counties, said it plans to deploy the next generationof its internal network design by upgrading to a new digitalbanking platform and installing a new telephone system withimproved voice, messaging, mobility and contact centerfunctionality.

In August 2015, the state regulator placed the credit union intoconservatorship after determining credit union officers andemployees approved insiders' loans on preferential terms andconditions, falsified loan information for insider auto loans andaccepted things of value in exchange for making loans, among otherallegations.

The state regulator and the NCUA also issued a cease and desistorder to replace the CEO, COO and chief lending officer in April2015.

Since the controversies surrounding Alabama One began more thantwo years ago, members, employees, state regulators and others havefiled lawsuits claiming fraud, a hostile workplace environment,compliance and state law violations, conspiracy, breaches offiduciary duties and the waste of corporate assets.
