JetStream Federal Credit Union in Miami Lakes, Fla., is mourning the passing of its former longtime vice president of lending, Fernando Reyes.

Reyes died on Friday after a long battle with cancer, the credit union said. He had served as vice president of lending at the 17,500-member JetStream Federal from 1998 to 2011.

“Fernando possessed a passion for his work that was only surpassed by his love for family,” the $134 million JetStream Federal said in a statement.

President/CEO Jeanne Kucey, current chair of the NAFCU Board, said, “All of the JetStream team members and volunteers will miss Fernando's sense of humor, personal strength, and love for life.  We express our deepest sympathies to his family.”

Reyes' son, Jace Reyes, is currently CEO of the $120 million Miami Postal Service Credit Union.

The elder Reyes spent 30 years in financial services. JetStream Federal is 66 years old and has branches in Miami Lakes, Doral and Hialeah, Fla., and San Juan, Puerto Rico.
