Credit unions are winning in the fight to gain traction inmobile banking. That is the big takeaway from a newreport by Javelin Strategy & Research.

In its research, California-based Javelin looked at mobilebanking offerings at the four largest banks, top 10 large regionalbanks, top 10 community banks, and top 10 credit unions, by depositsize. It concluded that nine of the top 10 credit unionsoffer some kind of mobile banking, while three of the top 10community banks do not offer any kind of mobile banking.

Credit unions considered in the research include Alliant, American AirlinesFCU, Apple, Boeing Employees, Golden 1, Navy Federal, PentagonFederal, San Diego County, Schools First, Security Service, andState Employees' Credit Union.

Javelin noted: “Among top 10 credit unions, 50% offer the tripleplay, that is, mobile web, app, and text banking. The percentage ofconsumers using mobile banking at credit unions is only 19%.“

Javelin added: “There is still room for credit unions to grow,as 80% of the largest regional banks provide all three services andadoption increased to 28%.”
