The $160 million, 11,300-member Palisades Federal Credit Unionin Pearl River, N.Y., said it is offering low interest rateemergency loans to all Rockland County residents affected byHurricane Sandy.

Personal loans are being provided at 50% off standard rates forup to two years and will be processed within 24 hours, the creditunion said.

The money “can be used for anything from replacing spoiled foodto purchasing a generator to paying for a tree service for removinga fallen tree to making up for lost pay during the storm,”Palisades FCU said in its announcement.

The four-branch credit union also was waiving fees includinglate payment and overdraft levies and was reimbursing members forATM fees incurred as they were finding ATMs that had power.

“Hurricane Sandy was a forceful storm that requires a forcefulresponse,” said President/CEO Mark Welshoff. “As a non-profitcommunity credit union, it is our responsibility to do all that wecan to support our general community and membership in times ofcrisis.”
