Arkansas Federal Credit Union, Jacksonville, Ark., recently presented a $67,947.91 check to Arkansas Children's Hospital Foundation Director of Development Jennifer Selig at a press conference held in the main lobby of Arkansas Children's Hospital. Arkansas Federal employees and members raised $57,947.91 this past year through several fundraising events, including the sixth annual Arkansas Federal Golf Classic, candy and cardstock sales and several Bunko events. CO-OP contributed the additional $10,000 for AFCU's fundraising efforts, through their Miracle Match program, which encourages credit unions across the United States to fundraise for their Children's Miracle Network hospitals. Since 1998, Arkansas Federal has contributed over $600,000 to Arkansas Children's Hospital. All of the money donated by Arkansas Federal to Arkansas Children's Hospital will help fund the ENT Clinic Waiting Room, which will be located in the new ACH South Wing, set to open this year.
Fort Bragg Federal Credit Union, Fort Bragg, N.C., recently presented the Warrior Transition Battalion with $4,000 in commissary and gas gift cards. The donation was the result of sales from FBFCU's first published cookbook, Comfort Bites, a collection of recipes from FBFCU staff, members and residents of Cumberland County. The cookbook was developed solely for the purpose of supporting our wounded warriors in Fort Bragg.
GCS Federal Credit Union, Granite City, Ill., recently had its employees present CASA of Southwestern Illinois with a donation check for $1,100. Throughout the year, employees of GCS are given the opportunity to wear jeans on Fridays and Saturdays for $20. The funds collected go to a specified charity. The mission of the Court Appointed Special Advocates of Southwestern Illinois is to support abused and neglected children by recruiting and training volunteers to function as a voice in juvenile court systems in St. Clair, Monroe and Madison Counties.

Hanscom FCU, Hanscom AFB, Mass., recently made its second annual visit to Fisher House Boston, where representatives of the credit union gave out 20 Thank You prepaid debit cards worth $50 each to family members of veterans receiving treatment at the VA Boston Healthcare System. Supplied in partnership with the Armed Forces Financial Network, the cards are intended to assist with expenses such as meals, gas and personal items. Military veterans undergoing specialized medical treatment often must travel far from home, and the loved ones who join them face considerable expense and additional stress as they seek out housing, food, transportation and other necessities. Fisher House Boston is a 20-unit facility that provides free accommodation for veterans and their families while receiving medical treatment at a VA Boston Healthcare System facility. Since 1991, the Fisher House Foundation has donated 53 "comfort homes," built on the grounds of major military and VA medical centers located in the United States and Germany.
HarborOne Credit Union, Brockton, Mass., recently announced that its resource center, HarborOne U, had made a donation of $2,000 to renew its sponsorship of the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life Walk in Mansfield. The 18-hour, overnight event is held to increase awareness and raise funds to combat cancer. HarborOne will also be encouraging its employees to form a team of walkers. The Mansfield Relay for Life Committee also uses free space at HarborOne U to hold its regular meetings. HarborOne U opened in June 2010. The Center has offered free workshops and speakers on numerous topics. It also makes its space available free of charge to numerous nonprofit agencies and has sponsored many events in Mansfield and surrounding towns.
Indiana Members Credit Union, Indianapolis, prepared a special holiday event for a local school in its community. IMCU hosted a holiday celebration at IPS School 44, Riverside Elementary, in Indianapolis, where it distributed handmade winter scarves and toys to the 425 students and turkey dinners to all faculty and staff. IMCU partnered with IPS School #44 during 2011 and has already collected and donated, through numerous drives, 6,200 items for their food pantry, 130 hand crocheted hats by IMCU staff, 120 pairs of socks and 200 pairs of gloves and undergarments, all necessary supplies for the students, but wanted to do more this holiday season. Mandy Emery, AVP community relations for IMCU, planned and orchestrated the holiday celebration at IPS School #44. At the holiday celebration, each student received an age and gender appropriate toy and handmade scarf, and each staff member received an IMCU gift bag containing a turkey, all items needed for a green bean casserole, cookie mix, can corn, stuffing, corn bread mix and cranberry sauce. IMCU employees, board members and CEO, along with the credit union mascot, Cubbie, Indiana Pacers mascot, Boomer, Pacemates, Santa and Mrs. Claus, presented the students and staff with the toys, scarves and dinners in the gymnasium a class at a time.
Insight Credit Union, Orlando, Fla., recently provided support for first generation college students at Seminole State College. Insight Credit Union proudly supports college students with professional aspirations and a plan for how to achieve them. As part of the First Generation College Student Program at Seminole State College, Insight Credit Union has donated $475 toward the need-based scholarship program. Donations are collected from members throughout the year; anyone who donates to the Seminole State College Foundation is eligible for membership in Insight Credit Union.
Lacamas Community Credit Union, Camas, Wash., recently planted 1,000 trees in cooperation with The Nature Conservancy as a follow-up to the credit union's eStatement web campaign. Lacamas challenged its members to cut down paper usage and benefit the environment, surpassing its goal of 1,000 new users by December 2011 with 1,014 eStatement signups. For each new signup Lacamas promised to plant a tree through its partnership with The Nature Conservancy.
TruMark Financial Credit Union, Trevose, Pa., recently relaxed its dress code and allowed employees to wear jeans on two Fridays last month in support of the Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House. In doing so, TruMark raised $850. The Philadelphia Ronald McDonald House provides housing and supportive services for families of critically ill children receiving treatment at local hospitals. The $850 donation will subsidize housing for 56 nights for a family in need.
Valley Credit Union, Salem, Ore., in conjunction with Green Acres Landscape recently collected diapers, cleaning supplies and hygiene products to support Family Building Blocks. Thanks to donations from staff, members, the credit union, its business partners and the local community, Valley Credit Union and Green Acres presented Family Building Blocks with over 3,200 diapers and other supplies. Family Building Blocks goes through over 42,000 diapers a year assisting local families.
