Alliant Credit Union, Chicago, announced that its charitable organization, Alliant Credit Union Foundation, has recently completed its first year of operations, during which it has donated $200,000 to worthy causes in line with its mission. Some charities that it has donated to are the Breast Cancer Network of Strength, Bear Necessities Pediatric Cancer Foundation, March of Dimes, Boys and Girls Club, Orphan Foundation of America, Special Olympics and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

America First Credit Union, Riverdale, Utah, began its six-week long food drive recently. The drive is expected to generate thousands of pounds of food for the Utah Food Bank, in preparation for the holiday season. Last year, AFCU donated 14,850 pounds of food to the food bank, and this year the credit union anticipates an equally helpful contribution.

Belvoir Federal Credit Union, Woodbridge, Va., donated $5,000 toward the National Museum of the United States Army, a permanent home for the history and heritage of American soldiers. The building will offer both traditional and interactive exhibits about the nation's oldest and largest military service. It is scheduled to open in 2015 and will be considered the U.S. Army's national landmark.

Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., assembled care packages for troops serving overseas. The Support Our Soldiers program is an important part of the work done by the credit union's charitable giving organization, the CAP COM Cares Foundation. The care packages contained some comforts of home such as snacks, music CDs, warm socks, games, magazines and batteries.

Eagle Community Credit Union, Lake Forest, Calif., attended a symposium, hosted by CEO Bill Birnie, at which 24 Southern California credit union organizations gave money to the Children's Miracle Network. Co-Op Financial Services matched their donations as part of its Miracle Match program, and a total of $5,000 was raised to benefit children's hospitals.

FocalPoint Federal Credit Union, Chittenango, N.Y., recently completed its fourth annual School Supply Drive, benefitting schools in Chittenango, Cazenovia, Hamilton, Morrisville-Eaton, Stockbridge and Madison school districts. The credit union spent August gathering and preparing backpacks filled with school supplies, including scissors, paper, pencils, erasers, folders and crayons, which were delivered to area schools in an effort to ensure that local students have all the supplies they need for the school year.

Hudson River Community Credit Union, Glen Falls, N.Y., held its fourth annual golf classic recently. The event raised $22,836 for local youth programs. The funds from this year's event will be used to provide meals for the teens who visit the Glens Falls Area Youth Center; for the Cohoes Community Center's free after-school and weekend programs; and for the YMCA of Saratoga's free summer youth swimming and after-school enrichment programs.

Long Island Credit Unions, Long Island, N.Y., a cooperative group of 12 credit unions, will join together once again to support Long Island's leading hunger relief organizations, Island Harvest and Long Island Cares Inc. This will be the third year the Long Island credit unions have conducted such a food drive and fundraising campaign. In the past two drives, the credit unions collected 9,667 pounds of food and donations of more than $145,000. Donations for this year's drive will be collected at each participating credit union branch. Cash contributions will also be accepted at each credit union location and via the organization's website.

Pacific Marine Credit Union, Camp Pendleton, Calif., donated $3,000 to the Injured Marine Semper Fidelis Fund. Utilizing the matching grant program from the Armed Forces Financial Network, the two organizations were able to contribute to the many quality of life programs funded by the charity. Founded in 2004, the IMSFF supports returning soldiers and their families by providing financial assistance for immediate and perpetuating needs, such as hospitalization, rehabilitation and recovery costs. More recently, the organization has been able to help provide disabled veterans with home renovations, transportation, computers and software.

Personal Care Federal Credit Union, Trumbull, Conn., is hosting a clothing and food drive with a football theme. Teams of fundraisers score points for each article of clothing or nonperishable food item it receives this fall. The drive will conclude with a "Souper Bowl" event in November, after which all donations will be given to local shelters and food banks.

Shell Federal Credit Union, Houston, Texas, is teaming up with LifeGift, an organ procurement organization, to provide educational resources to its workforce and customers to promote organ and tissue donation. The Workplace Partnership for Life initiative is spearheaded by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services to increase organ donor awareness among corporations, hospitals and other entities.
