The Credit Union Foundation of Maryland and the District of Columbia has released what it calls a first-of-its-kind credit union search application for Apple devices.

The app provides physical locations, phone numbers and websites and can be used on iPhones, iPads or iPod Touch devices. It's downloadable for free from the Apple App Store by searching for “Credit Union Finder.”

Searches can be done by name, addresses or ZIP codes and results are displayed as a list or on a map. Phone and e-mail access then just calls for another touch of a button.

“Credit unions realize the value of mobile applications, especially to their younger members. The Foundation wanted to help members find and contact your credit union through a mobile app and to help non-members find a credit union they could join,” the Maryland-D.C. foundation said in its announcement.

The foundation, based in Glenelg, Md., said the application is a first of its kind and was developed with help from an Innovation Grant from the National Credit Union Foundation, graphics support from Visions Ink. and data from credit unions nationwide.
