State Employees' Credit Union, Raleigh, N.C., announced a $4 million grant to the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences via the SECU Foundation, funding the museum's centerpiece of the planned Nature Research Center. The centerpiece, SECU Daily Planet, will be a three-story multimedia program area that will employ audio and visual technologies to provide a backdrop for live presentations on key environmental issues and recent scientific discoveries. The SECU Daily Planet will also draw on live feeds of the latest science news and provide daily outreach to audiences statewide.

KSC Federal Credit Union, Merritt Island, Fla., announced that it set up a special fund that members of the community can contribute to. Monetary donations are being accepted at all credit unions branches throughout Brevard and Volusia. All funds raised will be directed to the American Red Cross to assist the citizens of Haiti.

Cardinal Community Credit Union, Mentor, Ohio, hosted a bake sale and raised a total of $500 to benefit Haiti earthquake victims. Employees donated a number of baked goods as well as their time to man the bake sale, where members purchased baked goods to support the cause. The proceeds will be donated to the National Credit Union Foundation's Disaster Relief Fund, CUAid, and will be used for disaster relief in Haiti.

Pacific Crest Federal Credit Union, Klamath Falls, Ore., donated $700 to the Klamath County Senior Center. The funds were donated to assist in purchasing a defibrillator unit for the center. The credit union also challenged other local area businesses to contribute what they can to help them raise the remainder of the funds needed for the purchase.

Fiserv Inc., Brookfield, Wis., announced that in recognition of its 25th year as a company, its employees have reached and exceeded the goal of donating 25,000 volunteer hours to hundreds of charitable organizations across the world during the company's anniversary year. Associates logged 27,917 hours to surpass the goal of 25,000 hours.

Shell Federal Credit Union, Deer Park, Texas, donated $510 to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. Each year the employees of the credit union show their gratitude for the volunteer board of directors by funding and hosting a dinner for the board and their families. The dinner gives the staff the opportunity to say thank you in person for their time, support and benefits. Employees are asked to prepare food or contribute $10 to the event. The dinner was a success and the next decision was how to proceed with the remaining funds. The staff chose the hospital as the worthy recipient.

TruMark Financial Credit Union, Trevose, Pa., relaxed its dress code and allowed employees to wear jeans in support of the Alzheimer Research Foundation, raising $960. The Alzheimer Research Foundation's mission is to raise funds to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease and offer support to those people suffering from the disease.

FedChoice Federal Credit Union, Washington, announced that for the sixth year its employees supported the fight against breast cancer. A total of $420 was raised for the cause, bringing the grand total to $2,569 over the past six years. Employees that donated money were allowed to wear jeans on a designated day, along with their "Passionately Pink for the Cure" pins.

Belvoir Federal Credit Union, Woodbridge, Va., announced that its employees opened their hearts and their wallets to raise funds for the Camp Sunshine Foundation. More than $100 was raised to support Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine provides respite, support, joy and hope to children with life-threatening illnesses and their immediate families.

St. Mary's Bank, Manchester, N.H., donated $3,200 to New Horizons for New Hampshire Inc. in Manchester to help fund a computer-based volunteer and donation kiosk. The new system will allow New Horizons to more effectively and efficiently track volunteers and donations, which will increase productivity and improve the overall operations of delivering services to the needy.

FORUM Credit Union, Indianapolis, raised money by taking part in a variety of activities with the hopes of buying a 15 passenger van for Dayspring Center, an emergency shelter that assists homeless families with children in central Indiana. The credit union met its goal and presented a $20,000 van to the Dayspring staff and board. Employees filled the van with pillows, food items, toiletries and clothing. Twelve $100 gasoline gift cards were also presented to the shelter, a gift card for each month of 2010.
