George Reynolds, who was NASCUS' chairman from 2007-2009, willretire from his post as senior deputy commissioner of the GeorgiaDepartment of Banking and Finance at the end of the April.

Reynolds, who has worked at the department since 1979, rosethrough the ranks after starting as an assistant financialexaminer.

During his two years as NASCUS chairman, he testified often onCapitol Hill on a range of regulatory and legislative issues andwas especially active in trying to persuade lawmakers and federalregulators to allow more credit unions to accept supplementalcapital. The issue is still being discussed among regulators andlawmakers.

Reynolds, a certified public accountant whose responsibilitiesincluded overseeing the regulation of all state-chartered creditunions in Georgia, earned his undergraduate degree from EmoryUniversity and his graduate degree from Georgia StateUniversity.
