CUNA's political action committee remained among the 20 biggest donors last year, with $1.1 million in contributions to federal candidates and committees, according to data filed this week with the Federal Election Commission.
The Credit Union Legislative Action Council is the 18th biggest giver, according to data compiled by the Center for Responsive Politics, a research and advocacy group. The American Bankers Association is ranked eighth.
NAFCU's PAC, the National Association of Federal Credit Unions Political Action Committee, contributed $98,933 to federal candidates and committees.

Both CUNA's and NAFCU's contributions were down from the 2007, the first year of the last campaign cycle. That year, CULAC contributed $1.5 million while NAFCU's PAC contributed in $246,415.
CULAC had $1.02 million on hand at the end of 2009 and NAFCU's PAC had $276,244.
In December, CULAC made $74,500 worth of contributions to federal candidates and committees. It raised $136,488 in December and $1.3 million in 2009.
In December, NAFCU's PAC made $4,000 worth of contributions to candidates and committees. It also voided $10,500 worth of checks it previously issued to candidates that had never been cashed. The political action committee raised $60,889 in December and $224,320 in 2009.
