Electro Savings Credit Union, St. Louis, awarded three members Edward G. Halliburton scholarships. Electro Savings awards three $1,000 scholarships to high school seniors that are members or whose parents or guardians are members of the credit union. The recipients were Sarah Haas, Thomas Rohr and Kayla Portwood. Haas is studying English and writing at Southwest Baptist University. Rohr is studying biology at Georgetown University. Portwood is studying biology/pre-med at Truman State University. The scholarship is named after Edward G. Halliburton who is a current credit union director. Halliburton was elected to the board of directors in 1967.

Black Hills Federal Credit Union, Rapid City, S.D., announced the recipients of its 2008 ViBZ! scholarships. Three high school seniors were awarded a $1,000 scholarship toward the college of their choice. The recipients were Kaitlyn Hemmingson, Stephen Kilber and Jennifer Wilber. Hemmingson is attending South Dakota State University and majoring in mass communications. Kilber is attending South Dakota School of Mines and Technology and majoring in civil engineering.

Wilber is attending Azusa Pacifica University and majoring in pre-medicine. All three are members of Black Hills ViBZ! teen program, which promotes financial education among young adults and helps them learn how to effectively manage their finances.

NASA Federal Credit Union, Upper Marlboro, Md., awarded a total of $25,000 in scholarships to high school seniors in celebration of the 25th anniversary of the Mitchell-Beall memorial scholarship program. The recipients were, Andrew Rohland, Christopher Barker, Emily Schou, Meghan Yi, Hinda Mezaache, Nida Vidutis, Matthew Salcedo, Kristin Simon, Jennifer Johnson and Elyse Willard. The scholarship was formed in memory of Wilfred Mitchell and Donald Beall, two former NASA FCU presidents. Over the last 25 years, NASA FCU has awarded $300,000 to 121 high school seniors.

Public Service Credit Union, Romulus, Mich., awarded 10 students each a $1,000 higher education scholarship. The recipients were Gailbrielle Bryant, Matthew Proffitt, Reginald LeRoy Jones, Daija Convington, Brandon Keeler, Gena Taylor, Melvin J. Walker, Shanelle Convington and Alexander Stephen Brown. The scholarship committee received over 50 applications from members and chose winners based on a combination of academic record, volunteer service, recommendations and a personal essay.

Greater Minnesota Credit Union, Mora, Minn., awarded $8,500 in traditional and nontraditional scholarships to students. The recipients were Rachel Harmon, Kristen Munter, Kelsey Brown, Leslie Karpen, J.P. Cartier, Kodie Roelofs, Alexandra Johnson, Desirae Nelson, David Wadsworth, Amanda Follmer, Kari Moe, Daniel Peterson, Melodie Dohn, Stephanie Skalicky and Samantha Welinkski.

BestSource Credit Union, Waterford, Mich., awarded $1,500 in scholarships to four students. Applicants had a minimum 3.0 GPA and were required to complete an essay on: "How do you think a financial institution can positively contribute to the community and do you think it's important?" The winners were Douglas Strait, who is attending the University of Michigan; Erica Sutherland, who is attending Grand Valley State University; Alexandra McGregor, who is attending Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute; and Jenna Penfound, who is attending Miami University in Ohio.

Unitus Community Credit Union, Portland, Ore., awarded 11 scholarships to graduating high school, undergraduate and graduate students. Each winner received $1,000 toward his or her tuition for the 2008-2009 academic year. The recipients were, Allyson Brown, Hilary O'Bryan, Kelvin Adams, Lee VanGundy, Hong Ho, Alyssa Larson, Katherine Wich, Ann Shepherd, Sophia Jackson, Kathryn Wardell and Anya Holcomb.

Philadelphia Federal Credit Union, Philadelphia, announced the winners of the 2008 scholarship program. The winners were, Jessica Dignam, Roneisha Smith Davis, Caitlin Cavanaugh, Benjamin Fallon, Gina Marie McMahon and Charles Bernard. Each student was awarded $1,000. Dignam is attending Mount Saint Joseph Academy; Davis is attending Temple University; Cavanaugh is attending Bucknell University; Fallon is attending La Salle University. McMahon is attending Saint Joseph's University. Bernard is attending Temple University.
