Centsible Makes Saving Easy at Alabama Telco
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Alabama Telco Credit Union members don't have to give too much thought to savings with its new Centsible Saving Program.
The automatic savings program saves money, earns dividends and pays members a match when they use their Alabama Telco debit card
Every time a member makes a debit card purchase, Alabama Telco automatically rounds up the purchase to a whole dollar amount, transferring the extra change into the member's Centsible savings account. If the member meets certain requirements, Alabama Telco will also make a match at the end of each quarter. There is a 50% match for the first 30 days and a 5% match thereafter.
So far over 500 members have taken advantage of Centsible Savings.
Polish CU Leaders Visit California
RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. — A 20-strong Polish delegation of credit union officials, media, and the president of Poland's largest credit union visited the California Credit Union League May 20.
Poland is experiencing its own housing downturn, and the visitors were most concerned with how American credit unions are assisting those affected by the subprime crisis, said Sylvia Faith, senior vice president of business services.
Over the last few years, Polish credit unions have provided their members with 100% LTV mortgage loans, and are experiencing a depreciation of home values. The country's credit unions are also facing banker-led proposals to amend Polish cooperative law.
"The California credit union system can be proud of its successes and I'm happy we were able to show this to Poland's journalists," said Grzegorz Bierecki, president of the National Association of Co-operative Savings and Credit Unions in Poland. "This experience will help them to understand what role credit unions can play in Poland."
Poland is the third country in recent weeks to send credit union officials to Southern California. The League hosted a Chinese credit union delegation on May 9, and in April, officials from India met with League staff and toured two Los Angeles-area credit unions.
