LATHAM, N.Y. — A summit on plastic cards drew more than more than 60 credit union professionals from New York, Pennsylvania and some New England states, according to the New York Credit Union League. The second annual Plastic Card Forum in Ledyard, Conn., jointly hosted by Covera Card Solutions, New England Credit Union Services LLC and the Pennsylvania Credit Union Association.

Themed "Build Your Best House of Cards," the two-day forum focused on all the tools and materials credit unions need today to ensure success in their cards area. How to stop phishing, what a credit union needs to know before deciding to keep or sell a card program and ATM diversification were just some of the topics covered by six industry experts on ATM, credit and debit card programs that addressed the gathering.

"The goal of the Plastic Card Forum is to present the most current, valuable information for credit union professionals in the plastic card arena," said Kimberly McCumber-Ploof, vice president of Covera. "By including such a diverse mix of industry experts, we were able to cover everything from fraud prevention to portfolio growth strategies."

"The card forum gave me several ideas on how to, with a little bit of work, manage and grow our credit union's credit card program and make more money in the longer term. I brought a lot of information back with me, particularly on marketing our credit card program and growing it so that it is a more profitable portfolio," said Lynn Henchel, a branch manager with Westchester Federal Credit Union who attended the event.
