ROANOKE, Va. — President/CEO of Member One Federal Credit Union Richard Williams announced that he will be retiring.

Williams has been CEO of Member One for the past 35 years. When he started Member One FCU was N & W Credit Union serving Norfolk and Western employees with $2.8 in assets, one branch in the basement of the N&W building in Roanoke, and six employees. Now, Member One has over $330,000,000 in assets, 15 branches including three student run facilities, a national ATM network and 160 employees.

Williams started in the industry in 1965 working for the Virginia Credit Union League as a state wide representative. In 1969, Williams became the VACUL Education director and to assist Virginia Credit Union Services with auditing and data processing services. During his 35 years with Member One Williams has merged 22 credit unions, and Member One was the first credit union to offer checking accounts in Virginia and the 37th in the nation.

Williams is an original member of the VACUL Financial Literacy Committee and is still serving. He is a member of the Chairman's Club of CUES and has served as the president of the CUES Va. Council. In his spare time, Williams is an adjunct professor teaching Business Management at Virginia Western Community College.
