SEATTLE — Workplace awards keep piling up for the $486 million Watermark Credit Union of Seattle as the CU plans a celebration of three separate honors at its annual meeting March 12, it was announced this week.

"We in top management make it our duty to really listen to what your employees are saying because in the long run they really know what works and what doesn't and exactly how to run the place," explained Charles Cockburn, president/CEO noting also today's generation of employees "simply wants to be involved" in more of the decision-making.

At the March 12 meeting, best workplace awards from the Washington State Psychological Association, Seattle Business Monthly and Washington CEO magazine will be formally detailed.

The psychology group said the Seattle CU received the "Psychologically Healthy Workplace" award by winning in five categories: "employee involvement, work-life balance, employee growth and development, health and safety, and employee recognition."

In receiving the honor, Cockburn said his CU attributes the company's success to management philosophies based on principles of the British-based Deming Forum and its founder, Dr. W. E. Deming as well as gainsharing methods of the Scanlon Leadership Network.

Separately, Watermark late last month held a grand opening ceremony for its new 44,000 square foot headquarters complex in a newly removed Seattle building. Employees began moving into the facility this month with completion scheduled for August.
