Our Community Credit Union, Shelton, Wash., received a Community Partner for Kids award from Shelton School District recognizing the active role the credit union has played in Shelton schools. Our Community CU provided classroom guest speakers to discuss financial topics, advisory committee members and judges for student presentations in marketing and business classes, and participated in the annual Career Expo at Shelton High School.
California Credit Union League, Manhattan Beach, Calif., recognized the late general manager and president of Hughes Aircraft Employees Federal Credit Union, Robert Pacheco, with the Unsung Hero Award. Pacheco helped found NAFCU and ushered a new era of modernization, efficiency and a lasting dedication to member service for HAEFCU, which is now Kinecta Federal Credit Union.

Whatcom Educational Credit Union, Bellingham, Wash., was awarded the 2007 Large Business of the Year award by the Bellingham/Whatcom Chamber of Commerce and Industry. In the past few years WECU has added six new branches and more than doubled its employees and asset size.
BRANCHING OUT
Capital Communications Federal Credit Union, Albany, N.Y., held a ribbon cutting ceremony on Jan. 10 to honor the opening of its ninth branch. The new branch is located at 384 Bender Lane in Glenmont. Capital Communications FCU President/CEO Paula Stopera cut the ribbon. The credit union has also already broken ground on its 10th location scheduled to open this spring at 219 Ontario St. in Cohoes.
American Eagle Federal Credit Union, Bloomfield, Conn., opened its new 2,300 square foot retail office at 699 Cottage Grove Rd. in Bloomfield. At the ribbon cutting ceremony President/CEO William J. Dokas presented $1,000 each to Operation Fuel, Inc. and the Bloomfield Education Foundation.
Educational Employees Credit Union, Forth Worth, Texas, opened their 13th branch in a shopping center developed by the credit union at 301 N.W. 28th Street. More than 25% of the facility is devoted to a community room that can be scheduled for community functions, area meetings, educational services, and other neighborhood events.
