SALT LAKE CITY — Never heard of the Department of Defense's 5015.2 guideline?
Millennial Vision Inc. would like to change that. The Salt Lake City-based reseller of document imaging software from Laserfiche in Long Beach, Calif., plans to promote the compliance guideline for effective records management and retention.
DoD 5015.2 calls for institutions to identify their most critical documents, establish definable criteria, and provide a process of continuity for the life of the documents, electronic files and other associated data.

"DoD 5015.2 is required by most governmental agencies and is adhered to in many other industries as well," says Scott Cowan, vice president of sales and marketing for Millennial Vision. "Unfortunately, many credit unions have by default treated their imaging data as just that, data. They may not have put together the other critical pieces required to meet compliance of a true records management document imaging system."
Millennial Vision's Laserfiche clients include California Credit Union in Glendale, which uses it as its system of record for loan documents, signature cards, photo IDs, receipt capture and member correspondence.
"The DoD standard provides confidence to the users knowing that the documents are actual representations of the original," says James Krob, the $1.2 billion CU's compliance officer. "Without these standards the credit union could not rely on the continuity of the data."
