PEMBROKE PINES, Fla. — Power Financial Credit Union says it has launched an online deposit system to counter what its CEO calls "one of the largest stumbling blocks of online banking."

The $587 million CU is now one of 30 credit unions using the UPost honor posting solution from eCU Technologies, the tech CUSO of $2.4 billion Pennsylvania State Employees Credit Union.

Power Financial has branded its offering "eDeposit."

Qualifying members with 55,500-member Power Financial CU can now log on at www.powerfi.org, select a checking account and then answer questions such as check number, date it was written, amount, payer and payee. They then record the session ID number, endorse the check and mail it the post office box provided during the transaction.

Members then will receive immediate credit of up to $2,000 and have five days to get the mailed check to the credit union, but have immediate access to the cash online and through ATMs and debit cards and checks.

"We believe eDeposit represents an important extension of our convenient SecureLink online banking suite of products and addresses one of the largest stumbling blocks of online banking, the deposit," says Allan Prindle, the credit union's president and CEO.

Prindle says the service also should help his credit union stand out in the competitive South Florida market.

eCU Technologies recently announced it is now beta testing a new version of UPost that also accommodates honor deposits by phone.
