ATLANTA — The Georgia Department of Banking and Finance recently announced the death former Commissioner David Sorrell.

Sorrell, who served as acting commissioner from January 2002 then commissioner from June 2003 through his retirement on Dec. 1, 2005, died of an apparent heart attack July 1.

He had served in various positions in the department, starting with examiner in 1974. Prior to that he worked from 1973 to 1974 in credit analysis and loan review with the Bank of North Carolina, N.A., Jacksonville, N.C.

Sorrell also served on the board of NASCUS at one time as well as the Conference of State Bank Supervisors.
