WASHINGTON -- The IRS' Advisory Committee on Tax Exempt andGovernment Entities (ACT) has announced it will hold a publicmeeting June 13.

The IRS is in focus for credit unions now with its recentguidance on credit unions and Unrelated Business Income Tax. Creditunion groups are planning litigation against the agency.

Several ACT project teams will present recommendations there,including:

  • A Review of the Voluntary Self-Compliance Program for IndianTribal Governments,
  • A Proposal for an Exempt Organizations Voluntary ComplianceProgram,
  • After the Bonds Are Issued: What Then?,
  • Improving Compliance for Adopters of Pre-Approved Plans,
  • A Prototype for Public Sector Defined Contribution Plans,and
  • Public Employers' Withholding and Reporting for Non-ResidentAliens.

The IRS has also named six new members who will begin theirtwo-year terms on the ACT in June. They join 15 returning committeemembers.

The ACT was established in May 2001 to provide an organizedpublic forum for discussion of relevant issues affecting thetax-exempt and government entities communities, providing regularinput to the IRS.
