WASHINGTON — Co-sponsors continue to pile on to the Credit Union Regulatory Improvements Act (H.R. 1537) as lobbyists say a hearing is expected.

Returning to co-sponsor CURIA this year are Al Wynn (D-Md.), Henry Brown (R-S.C.), Fred Upton (R-Mich.), Donald Payne (D-N.J.), Jesse Jackson (D-Ill.), and Steven Rothman (D-N.J.). New to the bill in the 110th Congress are Representatives Frank LoBiondo (R-N.J.), John Sarbanes (D-Md.), and Wally Herger (R-Calif.), CUNA Senior Vice President of Governmental Affairs John Magill's old boss.

"We feel pretty darn good where we are today…" Magill commented. "We are all over the Hill, I can tell you that."

CUNA lobbyist John Hildreth said that Congressman Ed Royce (R-Calif.) has heard from House Financial Services Committee Chairman Barney Frank (D-Mass.) that a full committee hearing on CURIA is coming. However, no date has been set.

In all of the 109th Congress, the bill reached 125 co-sponsors whereas it has already reached 92 this year, including nine new co-sponsors to make up for the 11 who are no longer serving in the House for various reasons.
