RENO, Nev. — What started as a simple way for Clearstar Financial Credit Union staffers to build holiday spirit has turned into a way to send some cheer to the Renown Rehabilitation Hospital.

Each department at Clearstar Financial took the challenge of decorating gingerbread houses. No one quite imagined how much competitive spirit and teamwork the employees possessed as humble gingerbread houses became mansions, estates, and entire ski resorts–all studded in frosting and candy.

The grand creations went on display in the credit union's lobby the week of Dec. 18. During the week, credit union members voted on their favorites. The members' response was so enthusiastic that the credit union decided to donate the houses to Renown Rehabilitation Hospital.

"We were so delighted by the gingerbread houses that we couldn't just throw them away. We hoped we could find a way to bring their joy to someone else," said Kellie George, marketing and business development manager for Clearstar Financial.
