DES MOINES, Iowa — In a very close race, Iowa Rep. Bob Kressig (D-Cedar Falls) was re-elected during November's elections.
Kressig, who currently serves on the board at $1 billion Veridian Credit Union and is a past chairman, beat Republican opponent Matt Reisetter by 98 votes: 5,137 to 5,039.
First coming to office in 2004, Kressig is already gearing up for the state's legislative session, which kicks off Jan. 8. He has asked his constituents for feedback on which issues should be of highest priority during next year's legislative session: economy/jobs, education, health care, public safety, environment, property taxes or transportation. Kressig had previously said during his tenure, Iowa legislators had not seen credit unions as a threat.

This is not the first time that Kressig's election has been close. Iowa credit unions scored a huge victory in helping Kressig to the Iowa House of Representatives in 2004. Kressig proved a strong and popular challenger in his win over incumbent Erv Dennis in a highly competitive race where the winning margin was less than 200 votes out of 13,000 cast.
