SUGAR LAND, Texas – Sally McKnight's credit union career that began as a volunteer for Den-Tal-Ez Employees CU 37 years ago and culminated with her serving as president of Houston FCU, will end next month. McKnight has announced her plans to retire in June. Christopher Choat, HFCU's senior vice president of finance and technology, has been named as her successor. McKnight cut her teeth on credit unions when she helped form Den-Tal-Ez Employees CU, Des Moines, Iowa, in 1969. After her three-year commitment on the CU's board, she moved to Houston in 1971 where she accepted the position of president of WKM Employees CU. After eight years leading that CU, she joined Houston FCU in 1979 as president and treasurer. What's more, she achieved all of these accomplishments before the age of 40. When McKnight joined HFCU, the CU's assets approached $6 million and it had approximately 3,500 members. Under her leadership, the CU has grown to $261 million in assets and over 40,000 members. Over her 39-year credit union career, McKnight has been very active in the credit union industry. She is a member of CUES, Credit Union Managers Association of Southeast Texas, Southwest CUNA Management School Alumnae Association, a graduate of Southwest CUNA School for Credit Union Personnel, and is a Certified Credit Union Executive. She served as treasurer of the Credit Union Alliance Corporation and the Credit Union Acceptance Corp. She's also been a leader in the Houston Chapter of Credit Unions where she served as a director, secretary, treasurer, and three years as president. At the state level, McKnight served as an advisory director for the Texas Credit Union League. According to Houston FCU, McKnight will continue to be active with the credit union, serving as its treasurer on the board of directors.
