RACINE, Wis. – Educators Credit Union is taking proactive steps to help members fight identity theft by joining forces with Identity Theft 911. "We added the Identity Theft 911 program because we care about the financial well being and account security of our members," said Educators President Eugene Szymczak. "This is a great asset to the credit union and a wonderful tool we can use to educate and advise our members." All Educators CU checking account members and credit card holders will now have access to Identity Theft 911′s educational resources and resolution network, which includes a personal advocate who works with the member every step of the way, to resolve the crisis and restore the victim's identity. In addition, the consumer education component provides members ongoing threat alerts, a monthly newsletter, and a dedicated Web site with articles, interviews, and white papers covering all aspects of this crime. A 2004 ID Theft Data Clearinghouse study conducted by the Federal Trade Commission finds that Racine was among the top three cities experiencing the highest rates of identity theft in the state of Wisconsin during that year.
