BIDDEFORD, Me. – The $105 million St. Josephs Credit Union, one of the first CUs in the nation to start offering completely fee-free credit cards, will be changing its name on Feb. 1 to PeoplesChoice Credit Union. The 42-year-old credit union was originally chartered to serve the parishioners of St. Joseph's Church in Biddeford but has grown to where it serves all of the surrounding York County. CEO Luke Labbe explained that the growth made the change necessary. “We're still the same great credit union- owned by the same folks, our members- with the same friendly staff,” said Labbe. “We've simply changed our name to help us get the word out that we are now open to the community.” “The PeoplesChoice Credit Union name will help us grow and offer improved services, new products, better rates, and easier access to the credit union,” he added. Credit union officials started the name change process nearly two years ago. More than 4,000 names were considered, and credit union members were invited to vote on three finalists. Members overwhelmingly selected PeoplesChoice Credit Union as the new name.
