RALEIGH, N.C. – Over the next three years, State Employees' Credit Union (SECU) will install DeLaRue coin sorters in all of its 189 branch locations. The move is aimed at providing members a free, much-needed service as determined by a SECU pilot program in Raleigh. Equipped with English and Spanish language options, the sorters will feature signage that highlights SECU's popular youth savings program, FAT CAT. About 50 coin sorters should be rolled out by the end of this year, and plans are underway to use them not only in branches but at community events as well. SECU will work closely with Wittenbach Business Systems to deploy the machines and provide any necessary training. "Normally when coin sorters are available to consumers, a fee is charged for the service. However, as a non-profit cooperative, SECU feels strongly about providing this service to its members at no charge -leaving more money in their pockets," said SECU Senior Vice President Facilities Patty Munns. "At the same time, we are hoping to use these machines to assist in community events across North Carolina, similar to the Wake Med Kids Day Penny Challenge held earlier this year, where a prototype of this new machine was provided to count coins for the event. As always, SECU wants to make a difference in local communities."
