HARRISBURG, Pa. – The Pennsylvania Credit Union Association wrapped up its Governmental Affairs/Chapter Leaders Conference June 10, and among the speakers was Jeff Rendel who encouraged credit unions to make sure political involvement is a job requirement of their CEO. Speaking on "The Next Generation of Lobbyists," the consultant and president of Rendel Holdings highlighted six corporate and political realities – "strategy; local voice; trust; time and money; taking a stand; and your own backyard" – and stated that the American Bankers Association advocates that in order to stay on top, political involvement must be a job requirement of a CEO. Among some of the other guest speakers who addressed the conference was state Sen. Gibson Armstrong (R-13), chairman of the state Senate Banking and Insurance Committee who provided attendees with an update on legislative activities and stressed the need for credit union political involvement when there are no pressing issues, since these relationships become very important when issues do come up and CUs need support, he said.
