WASHINGTON – Gary Officer, Executive Director of the National Credit Union Foundation, resigned his position effective Monday, April 26, "to pursue new opportunities," according to the Foundation. CUNA President Dan Mica will serve as interim director and the Foundation is forming a search committee to find another executive director. Phone calls to Officer's Foundation office were already being routed to Mica's office. The Foundation press release didn't say anything about where Officer might be going or what other opportunities he might be pursuing. "Gary resigned," said CUNA spokesman Pat Keefe and indicated that was all CUNA would say about it. Under Officer's tenure, the Foundation saw some of its strongest growth. First quarter 2004 grants exceeded $320,000, with $3.3 million projected by year's end. Total revenues are expected to reach $4.6 million this year, up from $3.3 million in 2003. "Gary fostered a number of innovations during his tenure with the Foundation," said Mica. "The Foundation's Board thanks him for his service and wishes him the best in his new endeavors."
