SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – Maurice Calderon, senior vice president of Arrowhead CU, has earned the prestigious "Reconocimiento Ohtli Medal," the highest award granted by Mexico's Ministry of Foreign Relations in recognition of his year of work opening lines of communication between the Mexican government and California's Inland elected officials and community leaders. Ohtli means "the pathway" in the Aztec Nahuatl language. In nominating Calderon for the award, Carlos I. Giralt-Cabrales, Consulate De Mexico (San Bernardino) cited Calderon's successful contributions towards building relations with Mexican Americans living in the Inland Empire and for being a great role model for society. Specifically he noted Calderon's work to establish workplace programs that enhance multicultural awareness and for leading Arrowhead CU's efforts to hire a more diverse workforce. "I learned from my father that if you want a positive and lasting community, you must work to make it happen. Nothing comes free in this life. We need also to remain aware of the fact that not everyone is as privileged as we are and we need to be tolerant of them and their dreams," said Calderon. Calderon has served for more than nine years as svp of government affairs and community development for Arrowhead. He will receive the "Ohtli Medal" at a special ceremony on April 30. Arrowhead has more than $730 million in assets and serves over 140,000 members.
