RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. – A second year of cooperative advertising by nine northern Nevada credit unions is continuing to shift the public's perception of financial institutions away from banks and towards credit unions. What's more, an increased number of consumers included in a public awareness survey said they'd consider joining a credit union. The survey conducted in September by Strata Research among more than 400 residents of Northern Nevada showed that among those consumers who are not currently members of a credit union, the percentage of those who said they'd consider joining a CU increased to 39% from 25%. “Returning earnings to users” and “low loan rates” with credit unions more than tripled since 2000 when a benchmark study was conducted. Dennis Flannigan, evp of Great Basin FCU in Reno, one of the credit unions that's participating in the ad campaign said the survey findings “confirmed the effectiveness of the campaign.our efforts to educate consumers about credit unions are building strong foundation for generating new membership and enhancing credit union business over the long term.”
