It seems that many people deeply involved with credit unions have time for little else but to eat, sleep, and breathe credit unions. That observation caused Editor Paul Gentile to wonder out loud at an editorial meeting exactly what do busy credit union folks do beyond the job? They certainly must have other interests completely unrelated to credit unions. Indeed they do! Viola! Overnight a new department for Credit Union Times was born. (See page 10 this issue) As its title, "Beyond the Job," makes clear, the format of the still relatively new editorial feature is a series of brief snippets that describe how those involved with credit unions spend some of their free time. And more often than not, the write-ups are accompanied by photos showing the person doing what they get a kick out of doing when they aren't occupying their time with credit union matters. Reader feedback was immediate and positive. It supports our original contention that readers are interested in learning that credit union people do have a life outside of credit unions. And what a varied and interesting line-up of activities they engage in. No wonder this new section became an overnight success. Since no other national credit union publication offers anything like "Beyond the Job," Credit Union Times is the place to send suggestions and ideas about yourself or credit union friends enjoying life so that the editorial staff can consider them for publication. So what are you doing this weekend? -
