WESTBROOK, Maine – The Maine Credit Union League's 2002 year-end statistics reveal another year of solid growth for credit unions here. According to the statistics, assets at Maine's credit unions increased 9.68% to over $3.260 billion, loans grew 6.30%, shares rose 9.47% and membership grew 1.86% to 582,329 members. According to League President John Murphy nearly one in two Maine residents is a member of a credit union. Nationally, Maine is the fifth strongest credit union state.
