I recently attended CUNA Mutual's Discovery 2002 Conference. It was excellent, very interesting and enlightening. But I saw some things there that had nothing to do with CUNA Mutual that bother me. I wish that someday publisher Mike Welch would devote one of his weekly columns to the lack of integrity among those in the credit union industry who, when attending conferences, feel that because something is on a table, that must mean it is theirs. At Discovery 2002 I witnessed a disgusting lack of character among some attendees. For example, one group of individuals from the same credit union took as many key chains as they could put in their bags while the attendants weren't watching. Another group of gentlemen took multiple old fashioned prism tubes until the booth personnel chased them away. At the closing breakfast, a group of individuals went from table to table picking up sunglasses, tubes of sunscreen, key chains, etc. until CUNA Mutual's representatives finally had to gather the excess and put it into boxes for safekeeping. After the closing session, three ladies took four floral arrangements each onto the elevator. They were very proud they had escaped with them. Every person described above was wearing a badge as an attendee of CUNA Mutual's conference. These are people who tell their credit union membership to trust them. They can't even be trusted with a $1 pair of promotional sunglasses! I got plenty of gifts so I'm not angry because I was left out. I'm angry because it's wrong. Don't people at conferences get it?
