Bob Gallman has been serving as the president/CEO of the Louisiana Credit Union League for less than two years, but he's already receiving praises for his leadership.

LCUL announced Gallman recently received an honoree award from New Orleans CityBusiness, a regional publication, for his achievements and community impact.

"Think about what a great feeling it is to go to bed every night knowing that you're in a business where you are every day helping people," Gallman said in an interview with the business magazine. "That really is just a great feeling."

Under his tenure, Gallman and his team developed a program to continue to certify credit union employees as financial counselors to help members better manage their money and improve their financial wellness. An organization that had previously supported the program suspended it.

There are now more than 400 certified financial counselors working across the state.

Because of its effectiveness, the certification program has been purchased from the Louisiana league by other state associations, according to LCUL.

Under Gallman's leadership, the Louisiana league also launched a new website in October 2018 that made significant improvements to its navigation, uniformity, appearance and accessibility, and a new scholarship initiative was introduced last year for young Louisiana professionals to participate in training of the Credit Union Development Education Program.

"Bob is an incredible asset to the credit union community in Louisiana and we are fortunate to have him leading the state trade association, ensuring the movement continues to thrive throughout the state," Sidney Parfait said, LCUL board chair and president/CEO of the $39.7 million Post Office Employees' Credit Union in Metairie.

Gallman joined LCUL in March 2018.
