Lynette Cupps, vice president of organizational development at the $1.3 billion MAX Credit Union in Montgomery, Ala., was named the 2018 CUES Next Top Credit Union Exec, at the CUES' CEO/Executive Team Network conference held in Nashville, Tenn., held earlier this month.

She received the honor after her project — how to support non-profit organizations and provide training for their staff and volunteers — was selected by a team of judges earlier this year as one of the five finalists from a group of international applicants all age 35 or under.

Cupps emerged the winner after a four-part scoring process that included judging panel results, a measurement of her social media engagement, plus audience and online voting.

The up-and-coming executive developed the idea for her project after sharing a conversation with an executive director at a local non-profit about the challenges they faced.

Cupps' project is a way to offer a strategic partnership with local non-profit organizations that often have the passion and volunteer base but lack formal training or processes to support their mission. In her presentation, she provided suggestions on how credit unions of any size can implement similar programs of their own.

"Attendees at our CEO/Executive Team Network conference were excited that Lynette Cupps and the rest of this year's NTCUE Finalists continue to demonstrate that the future of the credit union movement is strong and the plans and ideas coming from this next generation of leaders are both smart and achievable, " CUES President/CEO John Pembroke said.

The other four finalists included Blaine Bartholomew, director of member experience at the $1.1 billion Unitus Community Credit Union at Portland, Oreg., Clark Duncan, branch manager for the $1.5 billion Fort Knox Federal Credit Union at Radcliff, Ky., Emily Strybosch, brand specialist for the $4.4 billion Libro Credit Union at London, Ontario, and Jodi Maus, a talent development specialist for the $1 billion Central Minnesota Credit Union, Melrose, Minn.
