A Minneapolis-area CUSO changed its name to The Servion GroupJan. 1 to better reflect its emphasis on service and to make itsidentity standout better online.

When three Minnesota credit unions formed CU Companies in 1987,it focused on helping its owners pool resources to offer mortgages,and later created a correspondent channel for financialinstitutions to sell mortgages to the secondary market.

Over the years, the CUSO's ownership has grown to 60 Minnesotacredit unions. It now has 200 employees serving more than 300financial institutions across the country. Its services have grownto include mortgage, title, realty, financial advisory, andcommercial loan resources.

“We've built a company that's gathered the people, systems, andscale to serve our owners and partners, and all who use ourproducts and services,” said President/CEO Brad Crandall. “We willbe accurate and timely, we will provide solutions, and we willcontribute to the success of our partners.”

The new name was designed to emphasize service, with the “ion”added for emphasis, said Matthew Doffing, its contentstrategist.

As the CU Companies' circle of partners has grown, so has theneed for a name with more visibility. “We do think our name willenhance our ability to be found online,” he said.

The three Minneapolis-Saint Paul founders were Spire CreditUnion, City-County Federal Credit Union and Wings Financial CreditUnion. City-County FCU became part of Wings Financial CU in2011.
