The $17.5 billion BECU, Washington’s largest credit union, unveiled a new logo and brand identity Thursday.

The new logo features the white letters of BECU that are separated by vertical whitelines. These elements of the new logo are surrounded by a redrectangular box with a rounded lower-right corner accentuating theletter “U”– a subtle acknowledgement of “you,” the members andcommunities that the credit union serves.

The streamlined logo design also overcomes limitations posed bythe old logo when used in physical and digital applications.

BECU’s previous logo was launched nearly 30 years ago. Itwas created to give special prominence to the letter “E,” tohighlight the credit union’s role in providing financial servicesto Boeing Company employees.

However, since 2002, BECU hasbeen open to all residents of the Evergreen State. Since then, thecredit union has increased its membership from 305,622 in March2002 to 1,064,799, in September 2017, according to the creditunion’s Call Reports.

“It’s time to refresh our brand identity to better reflect ourmember-centric attitude and the significant changes that haveoccurred in the industry,” BECU President/CEO Benson Portersaid.

The new logo and brand are currently displayed at thecredit union’s headquarters in Tukwila and on BECU’swebsite.

All BECU financial centers, ATMs, digital properties, productsand other communication materials will reflect the change over thenext two years. Updated materials will be provided to members asthey become available, with new credit cards and checks expected tocome out in January 2018.
