Nathan J. Muniz, a former government relations and public relations manager for the $4.6 billion PSECU in Harrisburg, passed away of natural causes Monday at Pinnacle Health Harrisburg Hospital. He was 38.
Muniz joined PSECU in 2004 as a public relations manager. He served in that position for nine years and then worked as the credit union's government relations manager through January 2014.
"We are deeply saddened after seeing reports indicating the passing of Nate Muniz," PSECU said in a prepared statement. "Our thoughts are with Nate's family and friends during this difficult time."

Muniz was one of the five finalists in CUES' 2012 America's Next Top Credit Union Executive competition and focused on developing PSECU's grassroots network.
In 2011, Muniz was named a CU Times Trailblazer 40 Below.
In a CU Times article, Muniz said the continued vitality of the credit union industry rests in activism and the legislative process.
"Credit unions face so many challenges and pressures, whether it's marketing, loan growth or membership growth," Muniz said. "We need the playing field to be as favorable to us as possible and legislative and regulatory involvement is never going away. I'd much rather we have a seat at the table than be told what we can and cannot do."
Before he joined PSECU, he worked as a legislative assistant for former Congressman Tim Holden. Muniz also served as the research director for Holden's failed re-election bid in 2004.
Born in West Reading, Pa., Muniz is survived by his parents, Joseph P. Ferro and Kim N. (Koch) Ferro of Muhlenberg Township, his sister Tiffany M. Koch and significant other Geovonne Holmes of Birdsboro.
Milkins Giles Funeral Home in Temple is handling the funeral arrangements.
