Early November was a busy time for credit unions across the country, as many welcomed new hires and promoted from within. Plus, the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues recognized star leaders at their annual conference.
EAST
The Edgewood, Md.-based, $1 billion APGFCU presented a $1,000 2015 Educator Rewards Continuing Education Scholarship to Baltimore County Public School educator Danielle Monteleone. The scholarship, a benefit of the credit union's Educator Rewards program, helps local educators fund their continuing education.

William Crosswell (pictured), business development officer for Sb1 Federal Credit Union, was named to the Philadelphia Area Co-op Alliance's board of directors. Sb1 FCU has $590 million in assets and is based in Philadelphia.
The $170 million, Reading, Penn.-based Riverfront Federal Credit Union appointed Marcy Wink to community engagement coordinator. Wink has been employed at Riverfront FCU for more than 22 years and most recently served as a marketing specialist.
Wayne Carvalho, vice president of commercial lending for First Citizens' Federal Credit Union, was elected to the board of directors for the Boys and Girls Club of Greater New Bedford in Massachusetts. Carvalho was hired as vice president of commercial lending for the $664 million, Fairhaven, Mass.-based First Citizens' FCU in June 2010.
MIDWEST
The Falcon Heights, Minn.-based, $802 million SPIRE Credit Union promoted Laurie Leciejewski to branch manager. Leciejewski began as a teller in SPIRE's Princeton office more than 22 years ago, and most recently served as branch supervisor for the credit union's Princeton location.
The $120 million St. Cloud Federal Credit Union in St. Cloud, Minn. hired Mark Douvier as vice president of lending. He will also actively participate on the credit union's asset liability management committee. Douvier began his career in the financial industry nearly 30 years ago, and his experience ranges from roles within a small credit union to mid-size companies to the corporate arena. Most recently, he served as president/CEO for the $12 million Collegeville Community Credit Union in Saint Joseph, Minn.
The $2.8 billion, Waterloo, Iowa-based Veridian Credit Union hired Shawn Garrington as a systems administrator in its technology services department. Garrington previously served as a network technician for Wolfe Eye Clinic. In addition, Veridian hired Scott Adelmund as a network specialist. Adelmund most recently worked as a network engineer for Communications Engineering Company.
The $1.6 billion Royal Credit Union in Eau Claire, Wis. promoted Nicole Wilson (pictured) to vice president of organizational talent services. Wilson began working for Royal in 2002 and has spent the last three years serving as its organizational talent services manager.
SOUTH
The $427 million Brightstar Credit Union in Sunrise, Fla. hired Panzina Hill as vice president of human resources. She previously served as vice president of human resources for Nationwide Laboratory Services in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. During her eight years with Nationwide Laboratory Services, Hill held several positions including human resources director and human resources manager.
Antwon Moore, HR director of training and development for the $209 million Cy-Fair Federal Credit Union in Houston, was named a Young Professional Advisor by the Cornerstone Credit Union League. Moore has worked in the financial services industry for nearly 10 years, and will hold his YP advisor position through 2017.
WEST
The $2.8 billion, San Diego-based Mission Federal Credit Union named its CFO, Ron Araujo (pictured), president of Mission Federal Services, LLC. MFS is a wholly-owned CUSO of Mission Fed. Araujo, who joined Mission Fed in 2007, previously worked for one of the largest pension plans in the U.S., where he was responsible for a large CUSO. He will step down from his CFO position when a successor is named.
The $1.1 billion Columbia Credit Union in Vancouver, Wash. hired 35-year industry veteran Scott Ingram as vice president of marketing. He previously spent eight years at the $9.5 billion, Sacramento-based Golden 1 Credit Union, and served as vice president of marketing for the $2.5 billion, Fresno, Calif.-based Educational Employees Credit Union. Columbia Credit Union also hired Ryan Olsen as vice president of lending operations. Olsen most recently served as director of lending for a Washington credit union. His other previous positions included member solutions lobby manager/loan officer, and consumer and indirect loan manager.
California Members Title Insurance Company, a CUSO owned by the $1.5 billion, Glendale, Calif.-based California Credit Union, hired Linda Blood (pictured) as COO and Mary MacGregor as senior vice president of escrow operations. Blood has four decades of experience in the title insurance industry, including co-founding American Coast Title in 1988 and operating it for 25 years. MacGregor has 30 years of escrow experience, and spent several of those years working with Blood at American Coast Title. California Members Title Insurance is a full-service title insurer and settlement organization that focuses solely on California, delivering local services to credit unions and other lenders.
TRADES
CUES promoted Christopher Stevenson (pictured) from vice president/professional development and innovation to senior vice president/chief learning officer. Stevenson started with CUES in January 2006 as professional development manager. He was named director of professional development in 2010 and vice president/marketing and professional development in 2011, a title he held until November 2013, when he was named vice president/professional development and innovation. Prior to joining CUES, Stevenson developed multimedia online training courses and coordinated e-learning projects for companies in the financial services, manufacturing and media industries.
CUNA awarded Mark Wilburn, senior vice president for the $719 million, Bartlesville, Okla.-based Truity Credit Union, the 2015 Phil Greer Lifetime Achievement Award at its 21st Annual Lending Council Conference. Wilburn also serves as chair of the American Credit Union Mortgage Association and is a member of the CUNA Member Housing Reform Task Force. The Phil Greer Lifetime Achievement Award is presented to individuals who exemplify leadership, passion and commitment in the field of credit union lending.
LEAGUES
Six credit union industry leaders and volunteers, and one credit union, were honored at the California and Nevada Credit Union Leagues' REACH Conference. Charles Bruen (pictured), president/CEO for the $1.2 billion, Hollywood, Calif.-based First Entertainment Credit Union, received the Leo H. Shapiro Lifetime Achievement Award, which recognizes excellence in credit union philosophy and a lifetime of contributions to the California credit union movement. George Poitou, COO for the $633 million, Irwindale, Calif.-based SCE Federal Credit Union, and Wayne Tew, retired president/CEO for the $550 million, Las Vegas-based Clark County Credit Union, each received the Distinguished Service Award for their service to the credit union community outside the usual scope of their employment and league chapter. The J. Alvin George Outstanding Volunteer Award, which honors significant contributions by people who serve credit unions in volunteer capacities, went to Eric Day, board member for the $990 million, Anaheim, Calif.-based Credit Union of Southern California. Brandi Stankovic, human resources consultant for Boulder Dam Credit Union in Boulder City, Nev., received Tomorrow's Star Award, which recognizes the achievements of young credit union professionals aged 35 and younger. Finally, Patrick Redo, president/CEO for allU.S. Credit Union in Salinas, Calif., and the $301 million, Signal Hill, Calif.-based Long Beach City Employees Federal Credit Union, received the Kim Bannan Eternal Flame Award, which recognizes efforts that contribute to the success and future of Shapiro Group credit unions.
VENDORS
Gene Fredriksen, chief information security officer for the St. Petersburg, Fla.-based PSCU, was named CISO of the Year by the Tampa Bay Technology Forum at its 12th Annual Industry Achievement Awards Gala held Nov. 6, 2015. The TBTF honored Fredriksen for his development of information protection and technology risk programs for the company and his leadership in the information security industry in both the public and private sector.
