California Credit Union, based in Glendale, took some deserving educators out to a very special ballgame at Dodger Stadium.
The 23 first year teachers from the Los Angeles Unified School District were publicly honored at a Rookie of the Year celebration at the stadium. Ron McDaniel, CEO of the $1.4 billion credit union, threw out the first pitch.
"These teachers exemplify excellence in what they do," McDaniel said. "Our credit union was built on serving educators and we are proud to support a program that encourages and inspires excellent new teachers who are passionate about teaching the children of Los Angeles."

In its inagural year, the Rookie of the Year program was developed as a way to recognize first year teachers who demonstrated excellence in the classroom. Created and underwritten by the credit union in conjunction with Security Benefit, a retirement specialist serving its members, the program was customized specifically for LAUSD, the nation's second largest school district. Key characteristics for the Rookie of the Year winners were high levels of effectiveness in preparing and delivering instruction, providing a positive classroom climate with strong routines and procedures, a dynamic and engaging teaching style, and high levels of professionalism. Out of more than 920 first-year teachers employed for the 2014-2015 school year, 87 first year teachers were nominated as Rookies of the Year. Winners were selected by a committee.
All 23 teachers and their guests enjoyed the Dodgers-Angels game from a private suite, and each honoree received an award. The Rookies of the Year represented 16 elementary schools, one middle school, four high schools, one magnet school, and one college preparatory school.
